Prologue to 33 Years inside the Prison of Obscurity
Last week was my first interview in Detroit by a Detroit news media entity. Detroit: the city of my birth and where I was educated and raised the majority of my life, where I went to church, got married, the place where my two children where dedicated to the Lord, christened by Dr. Charles G. Adams, Pastor of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church.
My son Stone Washington took the picture above showing me in discussion with several Detroit Republicans. Stone stayed in the background but was eventually asked by Detroit News journalist, Bankole Thompson to express his views at the end of the interview regarding which Republican candidate he favored. Stone picked the famed Detroit-born neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson, whose biography he read years ago, and whose mailing list Stone dutifully supports with letters and monetary contributions. Other than my son Stone, I believe I was the only "Reagan Conservative" there; the other gentlemen from what I could deduce from our spirited discussions, were what most people would consider "Moderate" or "Progressive" Republicans.
Although Bankole Thompson, the former Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan Chronicle, has only been a journalist with the Detroit News for about two weeks, to his credit (and I told him this to his face) he had the vision and foresight to demonstrate true "diversity" in a city that voted over 98% for Barack Obama in the last presidential election of 2012. Bankole called me and the other gentlemen pictured above to convene at the Detroit Seafood Restaurant in downtown Detroit for a 90 minute interview about the major issues affecting Black Detroit and Black America from a conservative or Republican worldview. Below are a series of five additional questions Bankole asked me to answer last weekend. When his article about Black Conservative Leaders in Detroit is published, I promise to make it known to this readership:
What do Detroit Black Conservatives Think?
Bankole: Hi Ellis: here we go with specific questions...please endeavor send me the answers this morning. Keep them short and direct to the point- thanks.
1. Some are of the opinion that Black Republicans don't speak out. What specifically do you think is misunderstood about Blacks who join the Republican Party?
First, Black and White people need to learn their history: Black people in America were Republicans (or Whigs) for over 130 years or more before they started voting for Democrats. Republican Party is the Party of the Abolitionists (1830s), the Party of Abraham Lincoln (1860s), the Party that freed the slaves; that passed the first 9 civil rights and voting rights acts long before the that iconic LBJ-MLK handshake of 1964 (see picture below). Black Americans are naturally conservative, naturally Republican, most are very pro-life and pro-economic liberty, while historically Democrats only seek to enslave Black people's hopes and dreams to Welfare Slavery, abortion, victimhood, and social pathology.
2. What has changed for you since you became a Republican?
Like an Atomic bomb, everything changed once I became a Conservative. It happened in my senior year at college (DePauw University) on Christmas Day 1982 after I started reading for myself Reagan's voluminous writings on political philosophy, history, and economics (absent the Marxist Media interpretation and Marxist college professor's servile propaganda).
I then wrote and published my first two essays regarding this immediate and dramatic change in my philosophical worldview to Conservatism: Birth of a Conservative Intellectual, Part 1 and Birth of a Conservative Intellectual, Part 2.These were my earliest published works which were printed in my school newspaper, The DePauw in Jan. and Feb. 1983 respectively.
3. Democrats claim to own the real estate on issues like criminal justice reform. Do you agree?
No, this is revisionist history and I wholly reject it as specious revisionist history. Because the Left has exerted Communist-Socialist hegemony in all of America's institutions, particularly, law, the courts, the Academy, Media, Economics, Illegal Immigration and Politics, they get to set, to control the agenda including criminal justice reform. Meaning whatever solutions are discussed it is a losing proposition for the Republicans because all of the seriously debated solutions are done within a Communist-Progressive paradigm while Conservative ideas are ignored or perverted by the Left. (Heads, they win, tails you lose!)
For example, for decades I've written scholarly articles and books on criminal justice reform published in peer-reviewed journals on several continents, and all of the media in America purposely ignored these important writings by a Black conservative scholar despite the fact that my book, The Inseparability of Law and Morality (University Press of America, 2002), was published by a major academic publisher and accepted into the Chamber's Library of the U.S. Supreme Court. Furthermore, my scholarly law review articles on criminal justice reform including,Excluding the Exclusionary Rule, which was published by distinguished law journals in Australia and Europe.
In 2012, I wrote to one of the most respect constitutional scholars in America, University of California at Irvine Law School Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, about the defects of his article on Juvenile Law published in the ABA journal, Letter to Professor Erwin Chemerinsky. It was met with contempt and despite my prompting several times, Dean Chemerinsky purposely refused to engage me in debate as an intellectual based on the merits of my arguments beyond a few perfunctory statements that deliberately ignored the crux of my arguments. Why? Because White liberals, particularly so-called "intellectuals" cannot stomach having a Black man be their intellectual equals. Remember the all-out assault against another Black conservative intellectual, Justice Clarence Thomas during his Senate Judiciary Hearings, Oct. 11, 1991? Clarence Thomas went on the attack against the White racist Democrats on the Committee –
- This is not an opportunity to talk about difficult matters privately or in a closed environment. This is a circus. It's a national disgrace. And from my standpoint, as a Black American, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity Blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you. You will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. Senate rather than hung from a tree.
In 2004, I wrote a two part law review article series to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the landmark desegregation case, Brown v. Board of Education, but more importantly to expose 50 years of White liberal hypocrisy and Black duplicity on the idea of even needing a case like Brown to start Black America on the road to equal access to education... to all institutions. The Brown case was very ignorant of history and Constitutional Law because under a Natural Law paradigm Black people are born free! It's an "unalienable right" given to all men by God and thus can never be taken away by man or man's laws.
Thus, establishing a paradigm based on equality for all work was already done by the constitutional Framers in the 1780s when the first three words of the U.S. Constitution were penned for the Ages – WE THE PEOPLE. In other words, rather than a hundred years of bogus, self-serving and reactionary civil rights bills, after Supreme Court cases based on Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes aphorism: "A new untruth is better than an old truth," after redundant voting rights bills under an evolution atheist and Positive Law paradigm. However, my scholarly writings rejects that Communist-Progressive worldview and proves this consensus humanist jurisprudence as inherently specious, thus like the Founding Fathers I embraced the original legal and political philosophy of the constitutional Framers – Natural Law, which is the integration of legality and morality. Therefore, under a Natural Law paradigm the "We" in We the People would from henceforth include all Black Americans, all women and all other racial groups created equal under God. (No more LBJ-MLK handshakes giving Black people what God already gave us before the foundations of the world were created. There is no such thing as "Civil Rights" only "Natural Rights."
4. Which of the current presidential candidates appeals to you most and why?
Donald Trump: Here is my recent Facebook posting that answers your question, Bankole – 'Facebook Friends: Have you noticed how many of the so-called "Conservatives" have spewed the most hateful rhetoric about Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump? I love it because Trump brilliantly shines the light of truth on the fake RINOs and Democrat Socialists who like rats are running for the cover of darkness as Trump continuously rises in the polls. He also fearlessly states his views based on American Exceptionalism that most people have had viciously mocked since Pres. Reagan left office in Jan. 1989.'
'I feel REJUVENATED!! Trumps my Main Man! He can win. He will win. The rest of the 16 GOP dwarfs are nice people, but overall very boring, very cowardly (cautious), and their political handlers have made them bloodless zombies groping around for any media attention; desperately trying to make their moribund, dead campaigns relevant. Harridan Hillary, if she survives the mounting criminal scandals against her, will continue to sink in the polls like the Titanic' as V.P. Joe Biden will give her a competitive race in September 2015 when he announces his candidacy.'
5. Confederate flag: is it a big deal?
Absolutely not. It's a typical bait-and-switch phony story that the Left has mastered perpetrating upon the public to achieve several Machiavellian ends: 1) To hide the real issues and Socialist policy failures of the Obama Administration where Black people's economic growth is the worst since the Jim Crow days of the early 1960sand Black youth unemployment in Detroit and most big cities controlled by Democrats is over 50%! 2) To hide the Democrat Party liability that historically they created and perpetrated slavery in America; that the Democrats created the Klu Klux Klan, the Confederate flag and was willing to kill between 750,000 -1.5 million people during the Civil War to preserve the evil institution of Black slavery in America; 3) To do what the Progressive-Communist Left has since the French Revolution 230 years ago – Place the litany of Democrat Socialist Party treachery and crimes upon the Republican Party while feigning like they have always been on the right side of history on every policy issue. Sigmund Freud calls this delusional psychosis "Transference"; "Displacement" or "Psychological Projection" whereby delusional 'humans defend themselves against unpleasant impulses bydenying their existence in themselves, while attributing them to others.'
A Confederate flag didn't abort 16-25 million Black babies; 117 million in total over 42 years since the legalization of infanticide by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade(1973). (*Note: We don't have infanticide numbers from California, Maryland, New Hampshire which over 42 years numbers in the tens of millions). The Democrat Socialist Party perpetrated this Black Holocaust and now we know their most devoted ally, Planned Parenthood has for decades been like the Adolph Hitler and Dr. Josef Mengele of our times in ghoulishly selling aborted baby parts on the open market for profit. The flag is not the issue. Black Genocide is the issue and the Democrat Socialist Party (and her precursors like the Jacobins, the Loyalists, the Slaveowners, the Humanists, the Communists, the Evolution Atheists, etc...) are guilty of genocide, not only Black genocide for over the past 400 years in America.
Epilogue to an American Nightmare not an American Dream
In my essay I wrote earlier this year on the myth of the American Dream, Open Letter to the Detroit Economic Club, I came to a disturbing epiphany that for me (and my law academic career at least) the American Dream has been a 30+ year nightmare. I did everything that my teachers from elementary school told us to do to obtain success –
- Study hard in school
- Go to Sunday School and Church
- Work for your money; Save your money
- Avoid drugs, gangs, idleness, and "fast" girls
- Graduate from college before you get married
- Treat people the way you want to be treated
- Be comfortable alone; avoid myopic, apathetic and ignorant people, they'll corrupt good morals
- ...[T]he hypocrisy of the American Dream – that if one works hard enough, that in this country you can become whatever you want to be. That American Dream is a cynical myth. The American Dream of reality is that one can become whatever you want to be... IF you believe in these three existential ideas: Evolution, Socialism, Progressivism, AND have powerful people, connected people, rich people of the same worldview in high places to pave the way for your success. That's the Real American Dream.
Why is the American Dream for most Black people an American Nightmare? Here is what I recently told one of my Facebook Friends, 'Faye' a lady I went to Cass Technical High School with 35 years ago:
- If you want to really understand your Democrat Socialist Party simply listen to what they say and believe the OPPOSITE. Ex. Propaganda Statement: "Democrats want to give free healthcare to all Americans, especially the poor and minorities." Reality Statement: Democrat Socialist's give Planned Parenthood $500 million per year to murder over 1/3 of all Black babies born in America and to house you in American versions of Hitler's Concentration Camps Democrats call "Projects" and the "Prison Industrial Complex" where for over 100 years millions of Black men are crowded together fighting, raping, killing and preying upon one another like rats. (*N.B.: You can do this analysis with any policy position that the Democrat Socialist Party ever presented over the last 200 years).
Why do 90-99% of Black America vote against their Christian values?Answer: Tribalism and Groupthink. Because of our history of slavery and segregation in America Blacks have a psychotic obsession to "fit in" above all else! Furthermore, historically Black people love being miseducated, having their ears tickled by their corrupt Democrat Socialist Party Preachers who every two and four years command their Black congregations to ride the Democrat Donkey once again which they always do against their own vested economic, moral and political interests. This is why I call Black America slaves to Tribalism and Groupthink because they will kill any prophet God sends to them who tries to educate them to follow a Christian worldview in all things (including Voting Biblically).
Thank you my dear son, Stone, for posting the historic picture above. 33 years waiting to be interviewed by my Detroit? Indeed the Bible was right when Jesus declared in the Gospel of Mark, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house."
*N.B.: 33 years was the age of Jesus when he left this earthly realm, but He will come back again soon.
