American Taliban lawyer appointed to third-highest Justice Department position

A lawyer who came to prominence for his full-throated defense of a subsequently convicted terrorist was quietly promoted to the No. 3 slot at the Department of Justice last month, a post that puts him in charge of the administration’s policy regarding Guantanamo Bay detainees.

The move has raised red flags on Capitol Hill and elsewhere among national security stalwarts who argue that the promotion could imperil the country’s longstanding war on terrorism.

The Obama administration appointee at the center of the debate is Tony West, a longtime Justice Department lawyer who received national attention for his aggressive defense of John Walker Lindh, the so-called American Taliban who is currently serving 20-years in prison for colluding with al Qaeda in Afghanistan and taking up arms against U.S. troops.

  I think we'd be surprised to learn of the true background of all the people he has appointed.  Scary to think what he'd do to the Supreme Court given the opportunity to appoint 2 new justices..  Goodbye constitution.  Goodbye America as we know it.  Said he'd transform us, well he's doing a darn good job right now.  Must stop him before he completes the job and there's no turning back.   We cannot let that happen to us, our children our grandchildren.    It will be a country no more.

Premature Babies Aren't People -- The Obama Record

Barack Obama worked to allow a gruesome practice, in which babies born alive after attempted abortions are left to die without medical care, to continue in Illinois.   

National Review journalist David Freddoso’s new book, The Case Against Barack Obama, exposes the lengths to which Barack Obama went to protect this ghastly procedure.

Because of a loophole, doctors in Illinois had no legal obligation to treat these babies.

Under the law, they were non-persons.  Illinois legislators tried to close this loophole with a bill mandating that babies born alive during an abortion would have to be treated just like every other baby born prematurely.  The same laws and the same rules of medical ethics would apply to these born, living babies as to any other born, living human being.

On the federal level a similar bill passed 98-0 garnering a yea vote from pro-abortion stalwart Barbara Boxer.  But back in Illinois, Barack Obama had problems with this type of legislation.

Born Alive Infants Protection Act

He spoke on the floor of the Illinois Senate in opposition to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act – in fact, he was the only senator to do so.  The following year he spoke against the born alive bill again.

As a rabid proponent of legalized abortion, Obama voted against the bill or worked for its defeat on three separate occasions.

The tiny newborn baby made very little noise as he struggled to breathe. He could not cry—he lacked the strength. He had been born four months premature.  “At that age,” says nurse Jill Stanek, “their lungs haven’t matured.” 

Stanek is the nurse who found herself cradling this tiny human being in her hands for all of his forty-five-minute lifetime. He was close to ten inches long. He weighed perhaps half a pound. It’s just a guess, no one had weighed or measured him at birth. 

No happy family had been there to welcome him into the world. No one was trying to save his life now, to put him into an incubator, to give him oxygen or nourishment. He had just been left to die.

Chris Matthews, on Tuesday“Hardball,” ominously warned that the “activists on the radio,” are “gonna pay,” if “we have violence in this country against our president of any form,” for having “encouraged the craziness.” Matthews made that charge in a segment, with NBC News’ Chuck Todd and the Politico, that began by the MSNBC host wondering if the GOP was “jumping the shark,” with “these crazy town meetings,” and declared “the clown show is over.”

 The following exchange was aired on the September 22 edition of “Hardball”:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Let me ask you about the Republicans. I noticed a little pullback on the, have they failed, are they feeling they’re jumping the shark, to use a television term, with these crazy town meetings? 

Have they felt, I saw the Eric Cantor meeting in Virginia the other day, he’s a smart guy. He wants to be president or whatever, some day. He’s smart enough to know, is he – I’m asking – that it’s time to cool it? That this crazy anti-government talk isn’t improving any body’s life. The clown show is over. 

It’s better now to look like you’re at least hopeful of getting a better health care plan for the country, even if you vote against it. Is that the Republican assessment right now? Based upon our polling?

   It amazes me how Mr. Matthews, a reasonably intelligent man can ignore the many accumulated reasons for the town & teabaggers meetings. The past 6 months of Obama policies that have placed our country in unprecedented debt; have not improved our economy; unemployment higher than ever; 8400 earmarks (paybacks) for a bizarre stimulus; obvious financial catering to unions (more payback); Cap & Trade, Death Tax,..even Coca Cola. all NEW taxes; no COL increase for Soc. Sec. this year; Govt takeover of Auto. mfgs. (another precedent); an 1100 page Healthcare bill unread by Obama & many of his proponents; the obvious repetitive lies by the White House (47 mill. uninsured; reduction or no increase in present Govt. costs; keep same Dr.; no change to you ….OBVIOUS LIES). Then we have the assortment of Czars, past communists, left radicals, tax cheats,
   the Chicago fiasco with Obama's chief of staff in the middle. Current ACORN expose..OBAMAs past and only employer! The on going simple birth certificate request…"just show the original document"!
   Additionally, our President and his "apologetic" foreign policy speeches and the recent missle defense change, exposing our NATO allies to an increasing Russian threat. No one had to prompt these meetings! If the news media, and all the networks would have performed their duties accurately,
   the townhall and teabaggers would have been much larger! This would include Mr. Matthews!

It turns out Mitt Romney isn’t the only presidential candidate to have a video leak this week.

Fresh on the heels of Romney’s leaked campaign fundraising video, in which the Republican candidate calls 47 percent of Americans "dependent on government" since they don’t pay federal income taxes, a recording from a purported 1998 Loyola University appearance by President Barack Obama has been posted to YouTube.

The sentiments revealed in the more than decade-old Obama video, however, are far different those Romney expressed at a Florida fundraiser this May. Referring to efforts to restore the efficacy of government, then-Illinois state Sen. Obama said:

“The trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some [wealth] redistribution -- because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure that everybody’s got a shot.”

A request for comment to confirm the authenticity of the leaked Loyola video was not immediately returned by the Obama campaign.

During his 2008 presidential campaign, some 10 years later, it seemed Obama's stance on redistribution had changed little. He garnered Republican criticism when he told an Ohio campaign audience, “When you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”
 
Obama now may be more wary of such language. Earlier this year when the president pushed for the Buffett Rule, a plan that would have raised taxes on the wealthy, he maintained such a tax increase was not designed to redistribute wealth but to spur investment in the U.S. economy.

I thought what Romney said was wonderful. I wish he'd put it into a commercial. He should make it a part of his stump speech. For too long we have shrunk from saying the Emperor has no clothes. A naked Barack Obama is what we need to see. Romney speaks the truth, and the truth will set him free from this dirty little "secret". Out with it. Thanks for your courage Governor!

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Republican Mitt Romney says a video clip in which he said that nearly half of Americans think they are "victims" was "not elegantly stated." But he says President Barack Obama's approach is "attractive to people who are not paying taxes."

Romney spoke to reporters Monday evening in a hastily called news conference after the emergence of a video in which the GOP presidential nominee told donors that almost half of American voters "believe that they are victims."

The Republican nominee did not disavow the comments but said they were made during a question-and-answer session. He said it was indicative of his campaign's effort to "focus on the people in the middle."

The website of the magazine Mother Jones posted a video of Romney's comments from a private fundraiser.
