Defying Obama, House passes bundle of bills to boost coal. Stoke it up!

The House took a parting shot at what critics say are the Obama administration’s policies to discourage coal production Friday by passing a package of bills designed to rein in the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to impose regulations on the struggling industry.

In its last vote of the session, the House voted 233-175 to approve a bundle of five bills, known as the “Stop the War on Coal Act of 2012,” that would block recent EPA efforts to regulate emissions, require the agency to consider the cost and economic impact of certain rules, and give states greater authority over pollution control.

“President Obama has spent his entire term waging a regulatory war of red tape and government mandates on coal miners, coal jobs and the millions of people who rely on low-cost coal-fired electricity,” said House Natural Resources Committee Chair Doc Hastings, Washington state Republican, after the vote.

The legislation is unlikely to reach the Senate this year, and even if it did, President Obama has indicated that he would veto it. But the House passage highlights the election-year tension between the Obama administration and the nation’s coal-mining states, several of which are also key battleground states.

Those include Colorado, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, all of which are home to coal companies grappling with the EPA’s recent first-ever rule on mercury emissions and its proposed carbon-emissions standards for new coal-fueled plants.

The heightened regulatory climate, coupled with falling natural gas prices, prompted Alpha Natural Resources to announce this week that it would shutter eight coal plants and lay off 1,200 workers in Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

An industry analysis released Tuesday forecast the closure of 204 coal-based units in 25 states in the next three to five years, resulting in job losses and higher electricity prices.

“Without the passage of the Stop the War on Coal Act, those job losses and thousands of others will become reality for hardworking coal miners and their families across the country as a record number of coal plants will be forced to close over the coming years,” said Mr. Hastings.

Nineteen Democrats crossed the aisle to vote with Republicans in approving the legislation, while 13 Republicans voted against it. The Democrats voting in favor included Rep. Shelley Berkley, who’s locked in a tight contest for the open Nevada Senate seat, and Rep. Mark Critz of Pennsylvania, a vulnerable first-termer whose GOP opponent Keith Rothfus has made EPA regulations a centerpiece of his campaign.
Rep. Ed Markey, Massachusetts Democrat, called the legislation a “polluterpalooza bill” that fails to “recognize the fundamental shift in the energy marketplace.”

“Republicans have been so busy manufacturing fake wars on coal and oil that they’ve missed the real American energy revolution in natural gas, wind, solar and other cleaner, cheaper forms of energy,” said Mr. Markey, the ranking Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee.

The Sierra Club called the legislation “a set of reckless and radical bills that would endanger millions of Americans across the country.”

A poll conducted for the American Coalition for Clean Coal Energy and released Thursday showed 59 percent of those surveyed in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia support coal-based energy. The poll, which oversampled Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, also found that most “agree that EPA is making decisions based on politics, not policy.”

ACCCE President and CEO Mike Duncan estimated that EPA regulations threaten 1.5 million coal and coal-related jobs nationwide.

“Today’s vote was an important signal to voters about which members of Congress are fighting to protect coal and the jobs it provides,” said Mr. Duncan. “It is disappointing that President Obama threatened to veto this critical legislation which would provide for more balanced regulations and ensure a future for coal.”

Gallup: 60% of Americans Don't Trust Mainstream Media!

Verne Strickland Blogmaster / September 21, 2012

FACE OF THE MEDIA: DO YOU TRUST ME?

Print Article Send a Tip

Gallup was out this morning with a new poll that contains a damning indictment of the mainstream media -- 60% of Americans, an all-time high, do not trust the mass media to accurately or fairly report the news. Mind you, that isn't 60% of Republicans or conservatives, but Americans of all political persuasions.

From Gallup:
The record distrust in the media, based on a survey conducted Sept. 6-9, 2012, also means that negativity toward the media is at an all-time high for a presidential election year. This reflects the continuation of a pattern in which negativity increases every election year compared with the year prior. The current gap between negative and positive views -- 20 percentage points -- is by far the highest Gallup has recorded since it began regularly asking the question in the 1990s. Trust in the media was much higher, and more positive than negative, in the years prior to 2004 -- as high as 72% when Gallup asked this question three times in the 1970s.
Last year, Gallup found that almost half of Americans (47%) believed the mainstream media had a liberal bias. Unsurprisingly, Republicans are the most distrustful of the media. Only 26% felt they could trust the media to accurately report the news. This is actually similar to levels registered in 2008. The biggest shift is with Independents. Less than a third of Independents, 31%, felt they could trust the mass media. This represents a big drop from 2008.

As a result, only 39% of Americans say they very closely follow the mainstream media for news about national politics this election year. This, too, is a sharp drop from 2008.

The media has long had at least a slight liberal bias, but changes in technology and the market have pushed it much further left. In decades past, the media could act as a gatekeeper and decide what was and wasn't news. They could push coverage favorable to liberals, but few people realized they were doing this. They were able to give an unnoticed and subtle nudge to politics.
They can't do that anymore. They may ignore the news that the events in Libya were a terrorist attack rather than a riot, for example, but the information will still get out. They may try to ignore the economic slowdown, but people still feel the results. The media can no longer control information.

As a result, rather than gatekeepers, they have become active participants in the political battles. Their liberal partisan bias is now obvious to everyone.

The good news is that fewer people are paying attention.

Note: Gallup's question only focused on mass market mainstream media, i.e. newspapers, TV and radio. It did not survey internet news operations, where biases are often openly admitted. For example, everyone knows Politico and Huff Post are left-wing, while sites like this one and Daily Caller lean right. It would be interesting to compare trust levels between mainstream and on-line media

We must stop this president and we must ensure that leadership in Raleigh is setting policy to help our veterans get the WORK, EDUCATION and CARE that veterans have earned and that they desperately need.
Now is the time to go to work for Pat McCrory for Governor and Mitt Romney for President…This isn’t about political parties, it is about AMERICA!
Read down for the WHAT, HOW, and WHY and let your voice be heard. Join the thousands of Veterans across the state of North Carolina that want to see a restoration of conservative principles in both Raleigh and in Washington!
WHAT:
Veterans for McCrory and NC Veterans for Romney are grassroots efforts to mobilize our friends and family that have served and bring them into the political process…REGARDLESS OF THEIR PARTY.
HOW:
IF you or someone you know is a veteran we need you to do FIVE THINGS:
1. BUILD YOUR NETWORK: Pass this Email to at least ONE other Veteran brother or sister in Arms or their loved one.
2. USE YOUR NETWORK: Continue to pass along information and events, like this email and upcoming launch events for Veterans for McCrory.

5. GET OUT THE VOTE: Are you registered to vote? You can do it all at early voting locations, and please please bring a friend!
WHY:
President Obama’s budget will hurt us in two ways:
1. Budget cuts will weaken our national defense and gut local units.
2. Cuts will hurt veterans’ services and veteran owned businesses here in North Carolina.
***NC may lose 35,000 jobs under President Obama’s budget and sequestration’s cuts.
What will that do to our National defense or our VA care?
What will that do to local businesses and an already HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE?
Onwards to Victory!
I remain Semper Fidelis,
Ilario

Gallup gives Romney great news: Race tied again as Obama's bounce fades.

Republican doom and gloom drumbeat was dramatically muted in the media this week.

A new Gallup Poll out this morning finds President Obama's convention bounce fading and the 2012 presidential race reverting to its previous tight margin. What a bummer for the preferred media narrative of recent days!

The poll, of 1,096 registered voters in 12 key swing states, finds Obama and Mitt Romney virtually tied at 48% for the Democrat and 46% for Romney with less than seven weeks to go.

Gallup's Daily Tracking of registered voters nationally finds the margin even closer with Obama at 47% and Romney at 46%.

The crucial swing states polled were: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. Obama handily won all 12 states over John McCain in 2008, but at this point this time the race is much closer.

Gallup found that 22% of those swing state voters said they were either undecided now or there's a slight chance they'll change their mind by Nov. 6. Ominously for Obama, more of that 22% susceptible to change currently support the incumbent.

Three-quarters of the swing state voters said the recent party conventions had not affected their choice.
And another three-quarters asserted the upcoming three presidential debates in October will have little influence on their vote.

Again ominously for Obama, the debates look to loom as more important for him than for Romney, the reverse of the usual incumbent-challenger template.

More of those who say the debates could influence their choice currently favor Obama (54%) than favor Romney (40%), meaning the Democrat has more to lose from a poor performance.

Sen. John Kerry is helping Obama. You may remember the wealthy Massachusetts windsurfer as the Democrat who won the 2004 election before he lost it, as Ohio slipped inevitably away. Kerry is playing the Romney role in debate prep, meaning a poor Obama showing is more likely. Although the salute will be sharp.

Obama Administration slips Taliban lawyer into top spot at Justice Department

          OBAMA APPOINTEE TONY WEST

From Al Qaeda 7 to DOJ 3
American Taliban lawyer appointed to third-highest Justice Department position

BY: Adam Kredo

A lawyer who came to prominence for his full-throated defense of a subsequently convicted terrorist was quietly promoted to the No. 3 slot at the Department of Justice last month, a post that puts him in charge of the administration’s policy regarding Guantanamo Bay detainees.

The move has raised red flags on Capitol Hill and elsewhere among national security stalwarts who argue that the promotion could imperil the country’s longstanding war on terrorism.

The Obama administration appointee at the center of the debate is Tony West, a longtime Justice Department lawyer who received national attention for his aggressive defense of John Walker Lindh, the so-called American Taliban who is currently serving 20-years in prison for colluding with al Qaeda in Afghanistan and taking up arms against U.S. troops.

Give this Affirmative Action Pres 4 more years and the "Blind Shiek" will not only be out of prison, he'll be the NEw Secretary of State. Americans should be very afraid of this OBOZO character, the Chicago Political Thug from the corrupt Chicago Political Machine. (as he said, we have to destroy our enemies (people who don't believe what he believes) and help our friends (people who want a nanny state similar to the USSR and China) although the chinese business's probably have more freedom right now then American business do.

I think we'd be surprised to learn of the true background of all the people he has appointed.  Scary to think what he'd do to the Supreme Court given the opportunity to appoint 2 new justices..  Goodbye constitution.  Goodbye America as we know it.  Said he'd transform us, well he's doing a darn good job right now.  Must stop him before he completes the job and there's no turning back.   We cannot let that happen to us, our children our grandchildren.    It will be a country no more.

Premature Babies Aren't People -- The Obama Record

Because of a loophole, doctors in Illinois had no legal obligation to treat these babies.

Under the law, they were non-persons.  Illinois legislators tried to close this loophole with a bill mandating that babies born alive during an abortion would have to be treated just like every other baby born prematurely.  The same laws and the same rules of medical ethics would apply to these born, living babies as to any other born, living human being.

On the federal level a similar bill passed 98-0 garnering a yea vote from pro-abortion stalwart Barbara Boxer.  But back in Illinois, Barack Obama had problems with this type of legislation.

Born Alive Infants Protection Act

He spoke on the floor of the Illinois Senate in opposition to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act – in fact, he was the only senator to do so.  The following year he spoke against the born alive bill again.

As a rabid proponent of legalized abortion, Obama voted against the bill or worked for its defeat on three separate occasions.

From The Case Against Barack Obama:

The tiny newborn baby made very little noise as he struggled to breathe. He could not cry—he lacked the strength. He had been born four months premature.  “At that age,” says nurse Jill Stanek, “their lungs haven’t matured.”

Stanek is the nurse who found herself cradling this tiny human being in her hands for all of his forty-five-minute lifetime. He was close to ten inches long. He weighed perhaps half a pound. It’s just a guess, no one had weighed or measured him at birth.

No happy family had been there to welcome him into the world. No one was trying to save his life now, to put him into an incubator, to give him oxygen or nourishment. He had just been left to die.
