Mike McIntyre blasted in NRCC robocalls on tax vote. He sure needs the publicity.

Posted: Dec 21, 2011 9:03 AM EST Updated: Dec 21, 2011 9:03 AM EST

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WECT) - Politico is reporting Wednesday morning that Congressman Mike McIntyre (D-NC) is one of thirteen Democratic incumbents being criticized in robocalls from the National Republican Congressional Committee over his vote on the payroll tax.

McIntyre sent out a statement Tuesday, explaining why he voted in support of the plan to extend the tax breaks two months.  House Republicans were in the majority in rejecting the proposal.  They want the cuts to extend for a full year.

"Raising taxes on American families is simply the wrong thing to do," the extremely incumbent Democrat said. "That's why I voted for the bi-partisan bill which has already passed the Senate with 89% of the vote.  This bill will extend the payroll tax cut to help working families, ensure Medicare patients can still see their doctor, help those who are unemployed, protect our hospitals, and provide a quick decision on the Keystone pipeline that will help with energy independence and job creation.

"This is a bill that is fully paid for, and will not add to the deficit.  It is time for the bickering and finger pointing to stop – the American people are demanding it and our nation needs it," Congressman Mike McIntyre said in an emailed statement."

Politico reports that McIntyre, along with Jason Altmire (PA-4), Lois Capps (CA-24), Ben Chandler (KY-6), Jim Costa (CA-21), Mark Critz (PA-12), John Garamendi (CA-3), Larry Kissell (NC-8), Jerry McNerney (CA-9), Brad Miller (NC-13), Collin Peterson (MN-7), Heath Shuler (NC-11) and Betty Sutton (OH-13), will be the subject of targeted messages to voters.

This is the proposed script released to Politico:

"Hello, I'm calling from the National Republican Congressional Committee with an important alert. If you're as fed up with Congress as everyone else is, wait til you hear what your (Congressman's name) did. Not only did (Congressman's name) vote last week pave the way for a tax increase for you and every other American middle class family, but he/she is now stubbornly standing by his/her position that could raise your taxes by over a thousand dollars starting on January 1st

Even House Republicans and President Obama agree that we should find an immediate long-term solution for middle class Americans. Why doesn't (Congressman's name) want to give American families the same stability over the holidays?

Call (Congressman's name) at (office number). Ask him/her to stop being the typical Washington politician and for once, try to work in a bipartisan manner to help lower taxes for middle class families struggling with a harsh economy."

Brad Miller targeted by NRCC robo calls in NC 13th District. 'Addicted to Big Government spending.'

Democratic Congressman Brad Miller is the target of a new round of robo calls today, criticizing him for opposing a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced federal budget.

The recorded telephone messages going into Miller's 13th district are being paid for the National Republican Congressional Committee, which has winning the seat a high priority in next year's election.

The Republican legislature last month re-aligned the district to make it much more GOP-leaning, attracting a growing Republican field of candidates. The legislature moved  Miller's home into the 4th district, and he may consider running in the 4th district, if the new district maps survive a court challenge.

The announcer in the robo calls says in part: “Brad Miller continued to oppose a Balanced Budget Amendment that would force Washington to live within its means. Brad Miller and his fellow Democrats' addiction to big government spending has led to a downgrade of America's credit rating and a dramatic loss in the global markets that could force you to pay more for everyday expenses,”
“While Brad Miller keeps standing in the way of real fiscal reform, middle-class families in North Carolina could now see a loss in retirement savings while mortgage rates, car payments and student loans could become even more expensive.”

McIntyre's debt-driven Democrat policies push U.S. down the road to fiscal ruin!

NC Congressional District 7 GOP Archives:  News

AMERICAN PEOPLE AND EXPERTS BELIEVE NORTH CAROLINA DEMOCRAT'S POLICIES ARE MAKING U.S. DEFICIT PROBLEM WORSE.

Washington — Mike McIntyre was dealt another blow this week as economic studies outlined the dire consequences of his failure to address the spending-driven debt crisis he presided over, and polls showed the public strongly disapproving of his fiscal policies.

Despite all this, McIntyre continues to tout bloated budget plans, more job-destroying taxes and plenty of Washington fuzzy math instead of changing his big-spending ways and getting serious about fiscal reform.

“It is shocking that Mike McIntyre would pile on more interest and debt on families throughout North Carolina just so he could continue his government spending spree with money borrowed from countries like China,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay.

“McIntyre’s wrong-headed priorities demonstrate just how out-of-touch he is and these new polls show Americans instead want meaningful deficit reduction that will get our nation’s finances back on track," Lindsay commented.
A new Bloomberg Government study showed that the most likely outcomes for inaction on the deficit will either lead to a debt crisis or rapid inflation:

“Short of default, a bout of inflation similar to that of the 1970s may be the only way for the U.S. to reduce its debt burden if lawmakers fail to pass deficit-reduction measures, according to a Bloomberg Government Study released today.

“The study projects the debt would fall to 61.8 percent of gross domestic product in 2020 under a scenario that repeated the 1970s, when consumer prices climbed 8.1 percent a year on average. A return of the 1980s, 1990s or 2000s would result in debt levels anywhere from 96.4 percent to 102.4 percent of GDP.” (Steve Matthews, “Inflation 1970s-Style May Be What Cuts U.S. Debt, Study Finds,” Bloomberg, 4/21/11)

A new USA Today/Gallup poll shows Americans overwhelmingly recognize that the Democrats’ approach is not workable:

“Nearly three-fourths of those surveyed, 71%, worry that the Democrats’ plan ‘won’t go far enough to fix the problem’; 62% fear they might use the deficit as an excuse to raise taxes.”

“Republicans hold a 12-percentage-point edge over Democrats as the party better able to handle the budget, and a 5-point edge on the economy in general.” (Susan Page, “GOP’s gamble on the budget pays off, so far,” USA Today, 4/26/11)

These new studies confirm what Americans already know, which is that Mike McIntyre cannot continue to spend and borrow in order to protect his spending spree without serious economic consequences. Will McIntyre finally listen and stop the very same fiscal mismanagement that created this crisis?

Mike McIntyre ducks chance to take a stand (again) -- fails to support any of the budget proposals sent to House.

NRCC CALLS MIKE OUT ON RUNNING FOR THE TREES WHEN TIME COMES TO TAKE A STAND. THIS IS HOW WE'VE COME TO SEE OUR INTREPID CONGRESSMAN.

As the House of Representatives considered five budget proposals last week, Mike McIntyre didn’t support a single one of them. Worse, House Democrats failed to pass a budget last year, which means McIntyre has not voted for a budget for two straight years – the most basic duty of Congress.

Please consider the following comment from the NRCC as you cover Mike McIntyre’s failure to lead in Congress.

“Mike McIntyre has failed the most basic responsibility of governing by failing to even vote for a budget over the last two years, let alone see one passed. While North Carolina families are tightening their belts and living within their means during these tough economic times, McIntyre is unwilling to force his party in Washington to do the same, even in the face of record-setting deficits.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Andrea Bozek

Tax Day (April 18) even worse under McIntyre's Democrat plan for job-destroying taxes!

NORTH CAROLINA DEMOCRAT'S NEW TAX HIKE PLAN WOULD BOOST TAXES EVEN HIGHER THAN PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT!

Verne Strickland Blogmaster    042011

Washington — Tax Day (April 18) could get even worse than it already is if Mike McIntyre and his fellow Democrats have their way, since they unveiled new plans to raise job-destroying taxes further last week in a speech made by President Obama.

To make matters worse, it appears that McIntyre and his Democrat colleagues would actually raise taxes considerably more than President Obama indicated in his speech, which would especially harm small businesses that are the engine of American economic recovery.

Will Mike McIntyre continue to follow his Democrat leaders down the path of fiscal and economic ruin, or will he change his ways and embrace a pro-growth budget plan that would encourage small business growth for North Carolina families?

“Mike McIntyre and his Democrat colleagues continue to demonstrate that they are completely unwilling to let go of their free-spending policies, even if that means hiking taxes on families and crushing job-creation instead of cutting spending,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay.

“Regrettably, it comes as no surprise this Tax Day that McIntyre and his fellow Democrats appear to be raising taxes even more than they led us to believe, particularly burdening small businesses that families in North Carolina are relying on for jobs. Will McIntyre continue to fuel the Democrat spending spree with $2 trillion in new taxes or will he finally learn his lesson and support a pro-growth budget that forces government to live within its means and encourages private-sector job creation?”

President Obama presented the Democrat plan to raise taxes last Wednesday, but the details have since revealed that he intends to actually raise taxes by $2 trillion instead of simply $1 trillion:

“In the case of the new White House proposal, its baseline starts with the assumption that the Bush-era tax cuts for higher earners are allowed to expire after 2012. That puts about $1 trillion in revenues into the White House estimate of future tax revenues right off the bat, even before the $1 trillion in new tax revenues that the president now is proposing to raise.” (John D. McKinnon, “Battle of the Baselines,” The Wall Street Journal’s Washington Wire Blog, 4/15/11)

This also means that the Democrats’ budget plans rely mostly on job-destroying tax increases rather than spending cuts, in contradiction to their talking points:

“So of the 3.4 percentage points of savings, more than half — 1.9 points — comes from taxes. That’s 56 percent, not the one-third or one-quarter that Obama was talking about. And I am assuming that Goldman is using the White House’s rosier economic forecasts when evaluating Obama’s plan.” (James Pethokoukis, “Obama’s new plan may actually rely 60 percent on tax increases,” Reuters’ James Pethokoukis Blog, 4/15/11)

And these types of tax increases directly harm small businesses, forcing layoffs and hampering economic recovery. (Jonathan Karl, “Fact Checking the Tax-Cut Debate,” ABC News, 9/8/10)

McIntyre and his fellow Democrats’ priorities are clear – they will continue to rely on job-destroying tax hikes to fuel their spending spree rather than live within their means and institute true fiscal reform. If McIntyre gets his way, Tax Day will get much worse for families and small businesses throughout North Carolina.
