Former workers at abortion clinic charged in deaths of patient and seven babies born alive and killed with scissors

Verne Strickland Blogmaster / October 28, 2011

TWO WOMEN PLEAD GUILTY IN 'HOUSE OF HORROR' SCISSOR MURDERS

Abortion

davidlohr@davidlohr.net
Two former workers at a southeast Pennsylvania abortion clinic referred to as a "House of Horrors" pleaded guilty Thursday to third-degree murder. The charges stem from the deaths of a patient and seven babies who were born alive and then killed with scissors.

Andrea Moton, 34, of Upper Darby, admitted guilt in the slaying of a late-term baby that a patient had delivered into a toilet at the Women's Medical Society in West Philidelphia.

"The baby was moving and looked like it was swimming," the grand jury report reads. "Moton reached into the toilet, got the baby out and cut its [spinal cord]."

Sherry West, 52, of Newark, Del., pleaded guilty in the February 2009 death of Karnamaya Mongar. A 41-year-old immigrant from Nepal, Mongar died of a fatal drug overdose that was allegedly administered during an abortion at the clinic.

The facility where the women worked -- an abortion clinic the grand jury called an "abortion mill" and Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams referred to as a "house of horrors" -- was operated by Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 70. According to prosecutors, the clinic catered to mostly poor, minority and immigrant women.

On Feb. 18, 2010, the FBI and detectives from the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office executed search warrants at the clinic as part of an investigation into illegal prescription drug activity. What investigators found inside proved to be far more troubling.

"Bags and bottles holding aborted fetuses were scattered throughout the building," Williams said during a January news conference. "A row of jars containing severed feet lined a shelf. Furniture and equipment was dusty, broken, [and] urine- and blood-stained. Untrained, unsupervised workers injected dangerous drugs into women undergoing illegal late-term abortions."

During the course of the drug-trafficking investigation, the district attorney's office learned about Mongar's death. They also discovered Gosnell and members of his staff allegedly performed abortions beyond the 24-week limit prescribed by law.

Prosecutors said Gosnell, a family physician, was not certified in obstetrics or gynecology.

"In case after case, Dr. Gosnell and his assistants induced labor; forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh and eighth month of pregnancy; and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of their necks with scissors and severing their spinal cords," Williams said.

Gosnell, his wife and eight of the clinic workers were arrested in January, after the grand jury released the findings of its lengthy investigation into his clinic.

The abortion doctor faces charges of third-degree murder in the death of Mongar and seven murder charges for the deaths of infants killed "after being born viable."
In addition to the murder charges, Gosnell faces charges of infanticide, conspiracy, abuse of a corpse and several other related offenses.

Neither Gosnell, who is being held on $2 million bail, nor his attorney has commented on the most recent developments. A gag order also prevents prosecutors from discussing the case.

In March, Gosnell denied any wrongdoing.

"I know that I have done my very best to provide the very best care to my patients," Gosnell told Philadelphia's Fox 29 WTXF.

Nevertheless, Gosnell, who also had a clinic in Delaware and a practice in New York, should have been caught long before the drug raid, the grand jury said in its findings. It placed partial blame on multiple agencies that allegedly ignored complaints about him and failed to visit or inspect his clinic since 1993.

According to the Pro-Life Union of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Gosnell performed an estimated 5,754 abortions between 2004 and 2008. Prosecutors allege he earned about $15,000 a day.

The grand jury also claims that complaints directly filed with various organizations -- some by attorneys who were representing patients of the clinic -- were not handled properly.

Gosnell has been named in more than three dozen civil suits going back 20 years. Of those, 10 are malpractice suits, the Fox News affiliate in Philadelphia reported.

According to Williams, Gosnell had "infected his patients with venereal diseases" and sent "woman after woman to the emergency room" with punctured uteri and intestines.

"We think the reason no one acted is because the women in question were poor and of color, because the victims were infants without identities, and because the subject was the political football of abortion," the grand jury said.

While the agencies named by the grand jury were not found to be criminally liable, the grand jury did recommend further regulations be enacted and additional hearings be held.

"If oversight agencies expect to prevent future Dr. Gosnells, they must find the fortitude to enact and enforce the necessary regulations," the grand jury stated. "Rules must be more than words on paper."

West, Moton and Elizabeth Hampton, a former clinic worker who pleaded guilty to a perjury charge on Thursday, are the first employees of the clinic to have their day in court. West and Moton now face more than 100 years behind bars. Seven others, including Gosnell, still face trial.

Rising conservative GOP star Sharron Angle to speak tonight at event honoring Ronald Reagan

By Verne Strickland / October 27, 2011

Constitutional conservative Sharron Angle of Nevada, who became a GOP icon after almost ousting Harry Reid from his U.S. Senate seat in 2010, is in Wilmington today at the invitation of the New Hanover County Republican Party.

She is slated to headline a sold-out banquet event tonight at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort at Wrightsville Beach.

The reception and dinner honor the late President Ronald Reagan, whose courage, rock-solid conservatism and patriotism won the hearts and minds of millions of Americans -- with the possible exception of Barack Obama, Michelle, Whoopi Goldberg, Stuart Smalley and Joy Behar.

Angle has shown herself to be a confident, capable candidate and force to be reckoned with. While she almost shorted out Senator Reid’s pacemaker, she came across in an early afternoon news conference as positive, thoughtful, focused and engaging. And conservative. I may have already mentioned that.

At the news conference, presided over by Rhonda Amoroso, New Hanover County GOP chairwoman, I asked the prominent visiting Nevadan what advice she might offer to Republican Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano, who is in the midst of a primary battle to win the right to whip incumbent Democrat Mike McIntyre.

Angle: The best advice I can give to anyone who is entering into the public arena is to walk your talk. Don’t just tell us what you’re going to do – but do what you tell us. We’ve become very cynical as voters out here. We’ve heard the smooth talkers, and we’re not buying it anymore. What we want to know is that you will stick to your promises. And your campaign speeches and statements need to reflect the Constitution.

VS: What are your own political plans going forward?

Angle: At the moment I’m the chairman of Our Voice PAC, and, in fact, if you want to get a copy of my book, “Right Angle, One Woman’s Journey to Reclaim the Constitution,” and you’re not able to come this evening, you can go to our website ourvoicepac.org or sharronangle.com, and you can get a copy of that book. But my goal right now is two-fold – first, to complete what we started with Harry Reid, and that is to remove him from that Senate leadership by doing independent expenditures in four Senate races where we feel like the Democrats are vulnerable. The second goal is to ensure that we have fair and honest elections, so we want integrity in elections – not just in Nevada but across the nation. As the chair of that PAC I can’t run for office, but I could resign as chair and run for office. So what I’m actually saying is that I’m not ruling out any of those options.

 **********************
In the news conference, Sharron Angle touched on a range of subjects, such as immigration, honest and transparency in government, the Occupy movement, taxation and jobs. New Hanover County Republican Chairwoman Amoroso said Sharron Angle was sure to be a popular keynoter for the Reagan event because of “her drive, energy, and principles. She is destined to emerge as a leader of national stature.”

Liberty Counsel: Anti-Christian bigotry is on the rise!

Verne Strickland Blogmaster, October 26, 2011

Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman
Liberty Counsel alert@libertyaction.org

Wed, Oct 26, 2011 7:12 pm

Pro-homosexual vandals recently attacked an Illinois
Christian academy at which the pro-family group Americans
for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) was preparing to
hold a banquet to honor an evangelical Christian leader.

The pro-homosexual movement is not only getting more
aggressive in their physical actions, but also in
pushing ultraliberal legislation, bullying in the
judicial system, and infiltrating the nation's public
school systems. Please read my urgent update below - Mat.

On October 15th, radical pro-homosexual activists threw
concrete bricks through the door and windows of the Christian
Liberty Academy in suburban Chicago because it was hosting a
fundraising banquet for Americans for Truth About Homosexuality.

The bricks were accompanied by a note that threatened,
"This is just a sample of what we will do if you don't
shut down (pro-family advocate) Scott Lively and AFTAH."

Matt Barber, Vice President of our affiliate group, Liberty
Counsel Action, strongly denounced this criminal act in an
interview shortly after the news broke:

"This really amounts to an act of terrorism in that they
threatened more violence if Dr. Lively and his speech went
forward and if the Christian Liberty Academy did not
disassociate from Americans for Truth About Homosexuality."

As I've said many times, it's the radicals who demand tolerance
who are the most intolerant of opposing viewpoints! They actually
called AFTAH a "hate" organization after throwing concrete bricks
inscribed with the message "Shut Down Lively" through the
Christian academy's windows!

I reiterate a comment Matt Barber made in his interview:

"We are going to speak God's truth in love without fear
of reprisal, or even in this case, without fear of violence.
So I have a message to the gay terrorists that perpetrated
this crime: Your terrorist tactics have failed, and you will
not succeed in silencing God's truth."

++We will not be silenced!

Promoting the homosexual agenda while attempting to redefine
marriage and family by pro-homosexual activists is perhaps the
greatest "culture war" of our generation.

One recent example of the growing intensity of this battle is
seen in the refusal of certain liberal office holders to properly
enforce pro-marriage laws that have been passed by Congress.

The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) defines marriage as being
between one man and one woman for federal purposes. It also
declares that no state is required to recognize a same-sex
relationship that has been declared a "marriage" in another
state.

Yet, President Obama and his Attorney General, Eric Holder,
have acted as both judge and jury in declaring the DOMA
law to be "unconstitutional" and "indefensible."

I am calling on my Liberty Counsel team to rise up against this
anti-family activism! DOMA is a law passed by the people's
representatives in the United States Congress, and it is the
duty of the Executive Branch to enforce the law!

Further, we must STOP any momentum and traction pro-homosexual
groups hope to achieve by their attacks going unchallenged!

I urge you to take a moment and sign our Statement of
Support upholding the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

We insist that President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder
and the Department of Justice, congressional leaders, and
military leaders actively comply with and defend the Defense
of Marriage Act!

++Liberty Counsel is aggressively fighting back!

Recently, I also told you about a case involving two homosexual
males living in New York who were demanding that their adopted
child's birth certificate be "certified" that he was born to two
"fathers" in Louisiana. Apparently, the homosexual couple thought
it important to get the birth certificate changed to affirm facts
which are biologically impossible! They were handed a well-deserved
defeat in federal court.

The details of this case illustrate the Pandora's Box of
disastrous consequences that emerge when we give legal
      recognition to unnatural relationships.

The "two daddies on the birth certificate" case is one of many
that Liberty Counsel has been involved in over the years defending
the bedrock institutions of marriage and family - and the ripple
effects into adoption law.

But perhaps even more damaging than the foothold radicals are
gaining in the body of American law is the horrific deception
and disinformation they are spreading!

Their advance is being paved with outright lies about the
practice of homosexuality, misleading "facts" about their
movement, and fraudulent use of taxpayer funds obtained by
cynically presenting their cause as a "civil rights" movement!

We must continue fighting and winning in both the courtroom and the
court of public opinion, even given the flood
of new attacks!

You can obtain invaluable help in fighting this battle
from the pages of Only One Mommy - it is simply one of
the best books yet written about the homosexual movement's
horrific social impact, written by one of marriage's best
      friends and most courageous defenders.

This is perhaps the most significant "culture war" of our generation.
Thank you for standing with me in this battle!

May God bless you!

Rouzer's contribution list packed with lobbyists, big ag power players.

 NC Senator David Rouzer

Johnston County State Senator David Rouzer is running for congress in NC-7 and hopes to unseat Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre in a district redrawn to be a little more GOP friendly.

Since he's running for congress Rouzer is allowed to raise money for his federal campaign in ways not allowed a sitting North Carolina legislator.

State legislators are forbidden to take contributions when the General Assembly is in session and are barred from ever receiving contributions from lobbyists. Rouzer's congressional campaign was able to do both and his first official federal campaign report shows a huge take in the first six weeks of his campaign.
Report main page
List of contributions

The report details 205,491 in contributions most of which came in September via more than 188,000 in individual contributions. So, who were those individuals?

The list in Rouzer's filing, which covers contributions through September 30, is a who's who in big ag in eastern NC. Hog producers like Wendell H. Murphy, tobacco farmers like Benson's Lee family and the leadership of the Goldsboro Milling Company are among the farm interests on the list.

Also on the list are several lobbyists, mostly representing ag industries like the NC Pork Council's Angela Meier and Tommy Stevens. Oh, and Rufus, too, wherever he fits in.

Although the individual contributions outpaced Rouzer's take from PACs, there are still plenty of familiar names who jumped into with both feet, including the aforementioned NC Pork Council, NC Farm Bureau PAC, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and trial attorney PAC Ward & Smith.

Rouzer is co-chair of the NC Senate's Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources committee.

Steve Jobs vowed to 'spend last dying breath' waging 'thermonuclear war' against rival Google. What an idiot!

Verne Strickland Blogmaster / Oct. 24, 2011

STEVE JOBS' DYING WISH -- THAT HIS LEGACY WOULD BE VICTORY OVER GOOGLE AND ITS PRODUCTS -- WAS STUPID. YES -- STUPID. NEITHER APPLE NOR GOOGLE WILL BE A FOOTNOTE IN THE HISTORY OF THIS TEMPORAL EXISTENCE. STEVE MIGHT HAVE BETTER SPENT HIS TIME PRAYING FOR HIS SOUL THAN WAGING WAR AGAINST A BUSINESS COMPETITOR WHICH WILL CEASE TO EXIST IN THE HEREAFTER. WHERE'S THE BEEF?

SAN FRANCISCO (The Blaze/AP) — Google can only hope that Steve Jobs‘ final vendetta doesn’t haunt the Internet search leader from his grave.

The depths of Jobs‘ antipathy toward Google leaps out of Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of Apple’s co-founder. The book goes on sale Monday, less than three weeks after Jobs’ long battle with pancreatic cancer culminated in his Oct. 5 death. The Associated Press obtained a copy Thursday.

The biography drips with Jobs‘ vitriol as he discusses his belief that Google stole from Apple’s iPhone to build many of the features in Google’s Android software for rival phones.

It’s clear that the perceived theft represented an unforgiveable act of betrayal to Jobs, who had been a mentor to Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and had welcomed Google’s CEO at the time, Eric Schmidt, to be on Apple’s board.

Jobs retaliated with a profane manifesto during a 2010 conversation with his chosen biographer. Isaacson wrote that he never saw Jobs angrier in any of their conversations, which covered a wide variety of emotional topics during a two-year period.

After equating Android to “grand theft” of the iPhone, Jobs lobbed a series of grenades that may blow a hole in Google’s image as an innovative company on a crusade to make the world a better place.

“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” Jobs told Isaacson. “I‘m going to destroy Android because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go to thermonuclear war on this. They are scared to death because they know they are guilty.”
Jobs then used a crude word for defecation to describe Android and other products outside of search.

Android now represents one of the chief threats to the iPhone. Although iPhones had a head start and still draw huge lines when new models go on sale, Android devices sold twice as well in the second quarter. According to Gartner, Android’s market share grew 2 1/2 times to 43 percent, compared with 17 percent a year earlier. The iPhone’s grew as well, but by a smaller margin — to 18 percent, from 14 percent.

Both Google and Apple declined comment to The Associated Press when asked about Jobs’ remarks.
Jobs’ attack is troubling for Google on several levels.

It suggests that Apple, which has pledged to be true to Jobs’ vision, may try to derail Android in court, even if Google obtains more patent protection through its proposed $12.5 billion acquisition of phone maker Motorola Mobility Inc. The derision comes across as a bitter pill for Page and Brin, who have hailed Jobs as one of their idols. It also appears to contradict Schmidt‘s repeated assertions that he remained on friendly terms with Jobs even after he resigned from Apple’s board in 2009.

Most of all, Google should be worried whether the Android brand is damaged by the withering criticism of a revered figure whose public esteem seems to have risen as friends, colleagues and customers paid tribute over the past few weeks.

“The words of cultural icons have a lot of power after death,” veteran technology analyst Rob Enderle said. “This almost sounds like a spiritual leader declaring a jihad on Android as his dying wish.”

Apple fans tend to be fiercely loyal, making it more feasible to envision an anti-Android movement taking shape like some kind of political protest, Enderle said.
